EdenTree Amity UK

Elite Rated by FundCalibre

The EdenTree Amity range of funds make socially responsibility key to any investment decision. The Amity UK fund is an actively-managed selection of long-running manager – Sue Round’s – best UK-based equities, which are designed to generate long-term returns for ethically-minded investors.

Company Description

Edentree Investment Management was the product of rebranding, in June 2015, by Ecclesiastical Investment Management, who first launched its investment management arm in 1988. The rebranding was done to emphasise its socially responsible focus. There was no change in legal structure or otherwise, bar the brand name, as a result.

Fund Manager

This fund is managed by Sue Round and Ketan Patel. Sue is one the country’s longest-running ethical managers, with more than 30 years’ experience in the industry. Having joined EdenTree in 1984, she has managed this fund since 1988. Ketan joined Edentree as research analyst in 2003 and became co-manager of this fund in September 2016. He previously worked on the trading desk at JP Morgan and as a healthcare analyst at Insight Investment.

I have managed the Amity UK Fund for 27 years, making it the longest established ethical fund in the UK. I invest for the long-term with a strong focus on medium and smaller companies

Sue Round - Fund Manager

The Investment Process

Sue, through her stock-picking technique, finds stocks that are currently undervalued and out of favour, but with the potential to increase in value. Responsible investing is a key factor in decision making, with any potential investment having to pass through a rigorous multi-factor screening process before going into the fund. Sue holds around a considerable 130 stocks, most of which are small to medium size.

As the fund has a small and mid-cap bias, it increases the risk profile over the UK stock market. This is somewhat mitigated by the large number of stocks held, which increases diversification. However, the fund holding solely equities does mean there is scope for capital loss.

Our Opinion

As pioneers of responsible investing, EdenTree offer even the most discerning client a justifiable investment opportunity. Having a large number of smaller companies makes the fund very different from its peers and Sue’s track record should generate good returns for investors.
