M&G Global Dividend

Elite Rated by FundCalibre

In a low interest rate world, income-focused investors have become increasingly reliant on dividends. This fund provides an opportunity to diversify by investing globally in companies that provide high and rising dividend streams.

Company Description

Founded in 1919, M&G Investments employs more than 1,500 people worldwide. The company, owned by Prudential plc, which is listed on the London Stock Exchange, focuses primarily on fixed interest and equities, but also invests in multi-asset and real estate. Its fund managers have an average tenure of 11 years, although many have been with the company for more than 20 years. Managers are given freedom to implement their own style on funds.

Fund Manager

Something of a ‘rising star’ in the fund management space, Stuart Rhodes joined M&G in 2004 as a global equity analyst after graduating from Bath University with a degree in business administration. He has run the M&G Global Dividend fund since it launch in 2008. He is also deputy manager of the M&G North American Dividend fund and is a CFA charterholder.

Companies that consistently grow their dividends, wherever they are in the world, have generally provided excellent returns over the longer term.

Stuart Rhodes - Fund Manager

The Investment Process

Although Stuart is conscious of his responsibility to deliver a reasonable level of income to his investors, his portfolio is not constrained by a target income yield, but rather invests in a diversified group of companies with the aim of delivering a rising yield, and a good total return, in the future.

The fund has historically had similar volatility to the global stock market. However, currency movements and geopolitical events could significantly alter this risk profile in the future.

Our Opinion

The fund offers welcome diversification for those investors concerned that they are over-reliant on UK companies for their dividend yield. Although Stuart is one of the youngest managers we rate, he is supported by a strong team and a sound process. The fund has delivered very consistent returns since launch.
